Concept behind the design of Teradol community mosque
1. Experience the Creator through His creation (light, air, nature). So I designed some frame through which the nature could be experienced.
2. it’s not fair to leave a box of carbon in such a beautiful natural setting. So I made a friendship with nature & the building. Just like the street do friendship with snakes. When the snake wants to go from one side of the highway to the other side, he uses the road as a friend to cross the road. In the same way, I did not stop the road of nature through the building so that the nature could enter one side of the building & get out on the other side. I also kept in mind that these paths are straightforward and simultaneously these pathways also work as the frame to feel the creator’s creations.
3. Contextual design. Because I believe architecture is a lot more about function and environment. Because aesthetics can be done through sculpture or painting, where climate, context, function, user is absent in many cases.
4. Many of my contemporaries may think that the modern Islamic architecture should be done with the exception of the symbols (dome, arch). Although postmodernism is going on, but I couldn’t exclude them when I saw too much emotions and feelings about those in the villagers. It seems as if you see an arch, you just bow down with respect. As an architect I always have much more user priority in architecture, so I thought I would modify those symbols, But also making them special so it will more acceptable to the villagers. Where those items became modified to me and being special to villagers.
And I used local materials (brick mainly) & local masons to built the structure to minimize the total project cost.
